Chucks French Tour 2019
Grenoble
Grenoble
Welcome to Chuck's French Alps 2019. I am planning a two week tour in the French Alps it will take place the two weeks before the PBP. You can come and join me for a great time riding in the French Alps for two weeks and then do the PBP or do your own thing after, The Tour will include a number of the Tour De France climbs. We will be stationed in the town of Grenoble at the base of the alps, each day will be a out and back that will be around 65 to 95 miles. We will be staying in a local Youth hostel or hotel which ever is better.
I will provide the info you will need to get there and back but it will be up to you to get yourself there and back.
I would recommend that you fly to Paris and get on the TVA to Grenoble . I prefer to fly the red eye over night and get into Paris in the early morning and transfer to the TVA getting to Grenoble before dark.
I will post my ticket as a example to those that might wish to copy me.

Chuck,
ReplyDeleteI assume you meant 2019.

I will be staying in a hotel or Air-BnB with the wife. Where is the youth hostel you will be staying at? Will get something close to it if possible.
ReplyDeleteit is a hotel that we are staying at , very nice and inexpensive
DeleteIs it okay to come just for one week?
ReplyDeleteyes Dzung will be coming for only the second week
DeleteHi Chuck, This sounds great so far. Have you scoped out rentals vs bringing the bike? Also, let us know when you have the best flights decided. Thanks, Ed Irvine
ReplyDeletechecked out rentals way to expensive
DeleteIs anyone interested in extending the trip, either before or after?? I would be interested in staying in a different town and riding for an extra week or two.
ReplyDeletenice to see there are more of us listed.
ReplyDeleteten is a good size group I think we will have more coming. have you checked out the routes
DeleteHi Chuck,
ReplyDeleteLike Dzung, I will join on the second week.
I'm in for the second week in Grenoble. I'll be doing 60-80 mile routes at a mellow pace. I plan on riding more balcony roads - Combe Laval Road+Col de La Machine, Les Gran Goulets, Gorges de la Bourne+Les Ecouges Road. All of these are eye-poppingly beautiful and within riding distance of Grenoble. There is also commuter rail in the area for point to point routes. For a traditional climb, I'm after Col du Galibier, from the north or Col de la Croix de Fer. This area is an embarrassment of riches.

DeleteHi Chuck, put me down for both weeks - Looking forward to seeing Robert & John D again. edwirvine@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteAre there any non-biking spouses going?
ReplyDeleteTodds wife is going but going to rent a E-bike
ReplyDeleteI'm booked for the full tour, but I'm not a serious randonneur - one of the crazy PBP riders like Chuck and Dzung. My preference will be to do rides more like 60 miles, kind of every other day. But at the end of the day, so to speak, my goal in doing this trip is to do as many of the iconic climbs as possible - things like Ventoux, L'Alpe D'Huez, and any other breathtaking ascent one should do before one dies. I would appreciate any thoughts. Chuck had mentioned that some of the rides involve a 30 mile out and 30 mile back. I would like to trim off some of those miles if possible, as it's the scenic climbing/descending that interests me, and I'm am not a fast rider on the flats. One crazy thought I had was to use Uber for the 30 mile out. Any thoughts from those of you in the know?
